NYC 2022 Day 3

Wow! What a day! This trip has pushed a lot of us out of our comfort zone, me included. Information leading into the trip was a little murky, we knew where we were staying and had a very rough idea of what we would be doing. We hit the mission field hard yesterday and I'm not sure any explanation could have prepared us for what we did in the city. We tried new types of food, eating everything from Moroccan to Japanese. We worked in parks and one of our groups was invited into a Mosque.

Here are some notes from some of our team:

The only way we can believe is if the Spirit grants us faith. After talking with David, someone so knowledgeable about spiritual things and even the Bible, yet without faith in Christ, it was humbling to see that only God can save. Only the Spirit can remove scales from people’s eyes. No words or eloquence on our part can save, but we are still called to speak to sow seeds, which who knows may speak to them later in life. The word of God is living and active and cuts deeper than any double-edged sword and we do not know when it will cut. We do not know where the wind comes from or where it goes and so it is with the Spirit. (S. C.)

Today, I learned more about the Lord’s Faithfulness. On the way to Sean’s place I asked for at least one person I could connect with and then I met Kara. I got her contact information & she’s already replied. I believe God has already taken over the situation and is working on her heart, whether we meet tomorrow or not. (J. R.)

Something I learned today was that literally no matter how scared or nervous I am about a situation, I should take the opportunity to speak with someone or pray with them. (E. V.)

That is just a small sample of what our team experienced and learned yesterday. We had two of our teams set appointments to meet up with people from yesterday. I ask that you pray specifically for those appointments. I also ask that you pray for new conversations and for new relationships.

Personally, I learned to play handball. I met Kendall in a park and he taught me to play, we played a couple of games before his friends joined us. Kendall and Ivan were nice and let me play with them until I just couldn’t do it anymore. We talked about life and eventually I was able to move the conversation to bring God into it. They were not super interested in God, but that’s okay, we learned it’s not just about reaping, sowing is just as important and you never know what fruit those seeds might produce.

Our students are reading Acts 14-18 today. I’d love for you to join them. Please continue to pray for our group. Specifically, pray that we will see this city as God sees it and hear the people with Spirit filled ears.
