Whose story is your life? This is one of the questions that came out of the day yesterday. Who is the main character of the story of your life? Our speaker pointed out that the main character of the Parable of the Prodigal Son is actually the father, not the sons. So that got us talking about the Bible as a whole and how God is the main character of all of the stories. Which got us talking further about how God is the main character of all of history. Which got us talking about how we are living in God's story, our life is just a small part of that story. So, I'll ask you, do you live like God is the main character of the story you are in?
We had a great first full day (day 2). We were up nice and early for a 7am breakfast followed by our quiet times. We started looking at the Parable of the Prodigal Son which is where we spent the day in small groups and worship as well. We had some excellent conversations. After quiet times we did our morning worship service where our speaker challenged students to look to things above, to orient their minds to God. He talked about how easily deceived the mind is, especially if we are not focused on God.
After morning worship our students broke up into what we called Life Groups, this is a small group Bible study time. This time was also focused on “the Parable of the Prodigal Son.” One of our students shared during church group time that they had learned that “comparison is the thief of joy,” from the parable.
The afternoon kicked off with wet rec, and man was it wet. And kind of cold. Some of our students looked like fudgesicles and others looked like blue popsicles. It was fun though and very messy. Our students played hard to win! And they had a great attitude even in the cold. After wet rec some of our kids got onto the ziplines while others went to shower.
The evening consists of worship and church group time. Church group time is where we follow up with what the students are learning from the other parts of their day. They get to share insights that they have had from their quiet times, Bible studies, and form the worship services. They did a great job sharing the last two nights. I’m very excited about what our students are learning.
Your students are doing amazingly well. We have a great group and so far have had no major issues. Not a single curfew violation, which makes me very happy because it means I get to go to sleep on time! If you have any questions call or text me.
Parents, when your students get home, you can ask them what they learned from the “Parable of the Prodigal Son.” Check out what our students are doing in pictures here: https://fbcm.info/SLC2023Photos. The pics I’m uploading now are pics from our phones. When we get back to Midland I will be uploading pics and videos from our GoPro and our “real camera.”
